Every CBD (cannabidiol) user’s story is different. Where their pain started, how they found out about CBD products and how it affects them. CBD can make a difference, big or small, in a number of people’s lives.

Inspired by the story of Stop & Smell the Roses Founder, Cody Coulson, and how CBD gave him his life back, I wanted to share my own personal experience with CBD.

My problem with painkillers

Attending an arts-focused high school just outside of Toronto had a really positive impact on my teenage years, but at the cost of a number of issues with my body. As a student who majored in the study of dance, I was dancing and active every day, 5 days a week for 4 years straight.

I developed some minor cartilage build-up in my knees along the way, so I started taking ibuprofen (Advil) almost every day. No big deal, right?

Eventually I built up an immunity and developed an allergic reaction to all anti-inflammatories, which cuts out the option of using a lot of traditional pain killers. Pretty much all the typical name brands were off limits to me.

I left high school and stopped dancing as frequently, so the small amount of pain was reduced and became less of a problem.

A different kind of pain

Flash forward a few years, I start to notice something about once a month… my period cramps are getting worse.

Now, let’s just get one thing straight – cramps SUCK for everyone. I already had painful period cramps to begin with, but in my early twenties they got really bad. I mean, really, really bad.

Some days I would skip a class because I didn’t want to move off the couch, other days I would vomit from the pain.

CBD was my solution

The first time my current boyfriend experienced my monthly pain, he immediately introduced me to CBD (cannabidiol) products. I did some research and decided to test out a concentrated CBD tincture.

The relief! The joy! I wanted to cry tears of happiness forever. Not only was my physical pain relieved from CBD, but I also felt generally lighter, more relaxed and less anxious.

Ending the stigma

Sadly, there is still a bit of a stigma surrounding the use of CBD products, but I think if people thought of it simply as a natural medicine, more individuals could be open to finding relief from all types of real pain they’re experiencing.

Even when I have a small amount of pain (like a headache or sore muscles) I take CBD in replacement of other painkillers. I’m so grateful to have access to these products. CBD changed my life in such a healthy, positive way.
