We’ve decided to create a blog series which will break down every CBD intake method as a way to help educate our customers. Every blog will go into depth about a specific intake method, including how to administer, the best cases to use that specific method and other important information to consider when choosing an intake method in general. Last week, we wrote about the sublingual (under the tongue) method. If you haven’t read it yet, you can check it out here. This week, we’re going to discuss how to ingest CBD – in the form of capsules, gummies or other edibles.

Ingesting CBD

Ingesting orally is one of the most common ways to take CBD. When you ingest CBD, it passes through the digestive system and is metabolized by the body’s liver. Once metabolized, its active compounds are sent into the bloodstream.

Which CBD products can be ingested?

There are many CBD products that can be ingested – or in other words, swallowed – including capsules, beverages and edibles (gummies, for example).

How to ingest CBD

Simply swallow your CBD product. If it’s a capsule, we recommend swallowing with a glass of water. You should feel relief in approximately 45 minutes after administration, and relief should last about 8 – 10 hours in the body.

However, due to nanotechnology, if you choose a product with extended relief features (these products release the CBD slowly throughout the day for a prolonged effect), relief can last up to 12 hours.

Benefits of ingesting CBD

If you’re nervous about CBD, capsules might be a more comfortable process for you. Taking a CBD capsule is just like swallowing a daily vitamin – something most of us have done all our lives.

CBD capsules and gummies also guarantee more consistent dosing. Every capsule has a set amount of CBD, so you don’t have to worry about measuring product dose.

For children taking CBD, gummies or other edibles typically have a much lower dose than oils, as well as a better taste, making them optimal options for younger users. The low dose also makes ingestible CBD products preferable for those looking to take a low maintenance dose on a daily basis.

Who should ingest their CBD products?

Ingesting CBD is ideal for any users who are:

  • Weary about taking medications and familiar with capsules
  • Children who need a low dose (and a better taste)
  • Looking for a low, daily maintenance dose
  • Don’t enjoy the taste of hemp
  • Want CBD relief to last longer in their bodies
    • This is an excellent factor to consider when using CBD for sleep
