Spring has officially sprung, which means longer nights, warmer days, and best of all, NO more winter blues! While we’re all welcoming the changing season with open arms, let’s not forget that spring brings the re-blooming of flowers, plants and greenery, which also means allergies (and sometimes a spring cold).
If the sneezing and wheezing prevents you from enjoying your favourite spring-time activities (or from functioning altogether), CBD might be a productive solution for you. Here’s why:
A bit about allergies
First of all, let’s break down some common allergy symptoms. Allergies occur when the immune system responds poorly to any foreign substances entering your body—which means all the pollen and other allergens floating around during spring that your body hasn’t been in contact with for nearly a year.
Most commonly, allergies can cause the following symptoms:
- Eye irritation
- Nose irritation
- Skin irritation, sometimes leading to various rashes
- General inflammation around your sinus areas
Allergies and CBD
CBD can help treat seasonal allergies in multiple ways. First, CBD can help treat inflammation in the body. This means it can help prevent the closing of airways and other areas in your sinuses. As your body attempts to fight off allergens, inflammation can occur as a response to the irritation that allergens create on cells in your body. This is why we experience skin irritation, closing of airways and painful sinus headaches.
Another symptom that can arise from allergies is chronic pain. CBD is effective in reducing pain throughout the body. Some allergic reactions can cause physical pain (such as rashes, headaches, sore throat, etc.) that can be combatted with a daily CBD regimen.
Finally, CBD has antimicrobial properties—an agent that both stops the growth of and kills existing microorganisms— that can help relieve pressure in nasal cavities, guard against nasal congestion and treat many other allergy symptoms.
Allergies and THC
For cannabis users, it’s also worth noting that THC can help supress our immune system’s response to allergies. In turn, this can prevent allergic reactions and allergy symptoms from occurring.
