Are you looking to try cannabis but don’t want to smoke? In recent years, many popular intake methods have been developed for those who want to experience the effects of cannabis (whether medically or recreationally), but don’t feel comfortable smoking.

Here are a few of our favourite alternatives:

Capsules or edibles

If you don’t like the idea of consuming smoke, ingesting cannabis (edibles, teas, etc.) might be better suited for you. While topical application results in a more gradual CBD effect, the main benefit is that you can apply it directly to your problem areas, allowing you to target specific areas of the body rather than your body as a whole should you so choose. The products absorb transdermally and are excellent for inflammation and pain relief. Most cannabis topicals will not get you high, making it an excellent choice for those wanting the medical benefits without any intoxicating effects.

Transdermal patches

Transdermal patches are excellent for pain relief, muscle issues, or even certain skin irritants. Much like topical creams or oils, the patches are administered directly on the affected area, allowing the cannabinoids to come in contact with your problem areas faster.


More and more doctors are staring to advocate for suppositories when it comes to medical cannabis users. Suppositories have a much faster absorption rate then capsules or edibles as they are absorbed by mucus membranes in the rectum. There are many suppository recipes posted online.


Similar to smoking without the harsh effects. Vaporizing cannabis – administering cannabis through an electronic vape pen—is an ideal option for cannabis users. Vaporizing allows for you to be extremely flexible with your dosing, and removes any harshness on the throat or lungs that may be associated with smoking.
